5 a Side Winners!

Driving up the M3 in the pouring rain we were not confident the tournament would go ahead but the further north we went the better the weather got. Both teams played extremely well in the group stages with Sherborne House B (led admirably from the back by James B and Josh M) securing two wins and a draw against A sides. The A team had to battle hard in a very difficult group and in their final match they went one behind before they regrouped and scored two goals to secure top spot in the group. The A team were excellent in their quarter and semi finals matches and controlled each game from start to finish with all six boys contributing at some point to both matches. The B team secured a comfortable win in their quarter final, before facing Mayville in the semi final. The boys battled extremely hard but the more experienced side came through in the end, and all credit must go to the seven boys who worked fantastically well as a team and secured a place at the ISA National Finals in March 2014. The final was a re run of a league match played two weeks before, and all six boys wanted to do themselves justice having lost that game 2-0. From the start you could feel the tension between the two teams, and they both knew one goal would probably secure the cup. Throughout the whole 10 minutes of normal time both sides created half chances but neither goalkeeper had to make a telling save. With no goals scored the game entered into a four minute golden goal period and SHS stepped up the pressure on the Mayville’s defensive line.  With literally the last kick of the game Rory H was first to the ball and his shot beat the advancing Mayville keeper to the win the cup for the second time in three years for Sherborne House School.
