Year 4 Assembly

The children in Year 4 presented their assembly to an enthusiastic audience of parents and grandparents. The theme for the assembly was ‘Islands’ and it combined work from geography, English and music with the addition of a gymnastics display by the girls who attend Mrs Whytehead’s lunchtime club. Every child performed with confidence and a clear voice, telling us about the island of St Lucia, the journey of a banana from plantation to shop and demonstrating their knowledge of the differences between life in the UK and on St Lucia, through a 1970s-style quiz show – How Well Do You Know Your Family? There were performances of Caribbean poetry, the children’s own descriptive writing and the songs ‘Island in the Sun’ and ‘I like bananas’ – the Fairtrade song. It was lovely to hear about such a broad range of the children’s learning and to see them sharing their work with enjoyment.
