U9A PGS Rugby Plate Winners!

On a muddy afternoon the U9 rugby team took part in a PGS rugby competition. They started well by comfortably beating Prince’s Mead B team. Next, they faced a strong Haslemere team. It was a very close game but Haslemere just edged it. The boys then faced a good PGS B team but strong running and good tackling ensured victory. It was down to the final game against Oakwood A to decide if we qualified for the cup or plate competition. It was an extremely close game with SHS taking the lead but Oakwood hit back with a quick try. It looked like SHS would earn a deserved draw but Oakwood scored with the last passage of play. However, the boys were through to the semi-finals of the plate competition where they faced HCS. Excellent tackling and much improved flowing rugby gave SHS victory and a place in the final. Once again SHS faced PGS B team who were set for revenge after our victory against them in the group stages. SHS took the lead but PGS hit straight back with a try to equalise. The boys kept their composure and eventually scored two further tries to ensure they were crowned deserved winners of the plate competition. They worked hard, tackled well and were starting to play more passing rugby as the competition progressed. Well done to all involved!
