VE Day

On Friday 8th May the whole school came together to commemorate the events of VE Day 70 years ago. At the exact moment of Winston Churchill’s speech confirming the end of World War 2 in Europe, we observed the National Two Minute silence and then listened as Huw D delivered Churchill’s famous speech.  Mrs Lee then led the school in singing some traditional songs from the time, finishing with the National Anthem.

Separately, and as part of their history topic on the subject, Year Six were lucky enough to be able to hear accounts of 70  years ago from people who were there at the time and to look at medals and artefacts from the era. Dressed in costumes of the day, they then finished the afternoon with a traditional street party and some “almost” authentic food.

Thank you to all the parents and grandparents who supported this event.
