Mental Health Parental Workshop ~ Tuesday 5th March

Posted: 13th March 2024

We were delighted to have arranged a mental health parent workshop with guest speaker, Dr Carlos Hoyos (Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist) on Tuesday.

The session was well attended by both our parents and also parents from the wider community.

Dr Hoyos was an engaging speaker and shared his professional knowledge on three key mental health issues affecting children today. The session focussed on exploring firstly, the theme, ‘your child is not you; what makes a child a person’. The second aspect of his presentation was imparting information about the difference between neurodiversity and neurodisability and how these may present in a child. Dr Hoyos’ third key point centred around the idea that ‘suffering is not bad’ and he provided suggestions of how to manage emotional pain. Dr Hoyos explained that all these three key areas are interlinked and how they could affect a child.

Our evening parental mental health workshop was a huge success and the talk was highly interesting and so informative. We would like to extend a huge thank you to Dr Hoyos for kindly agreeing to run this workshop and giving up his time for us. Also thank you to all the parents and staff who attended or helped behind the scenes.
