Friends of Sherborne House ~ FOSH

Posted: 20th October 2023

As a school, we are very fortunate to be supported by an excellent parent committee, Friends of Sherborne House, fondly known as FOSH.

With thanks to all the support, donations and voluntary help from our whole parent body, the last year in particular has been one to celebrate for FOSH. As an extended thank you for our generous community spirit here at Sherborne House, FOSH wanted to share a little about what has been raised, as well as how the funds have been spent to enrich the experiences of pupils at Sherborne House.

At the 2023 Summer fete, the total raised was £2,491 and – over the course of the year – from discos, Easter bunny visits, uniform sales and event refreshments, impressive accumulation of funds amounting to £12,000 was raised. This is a huge success to be celebrated!

Over the last academic year, the primary focus for FOSH has been the development of the well-being garden. With funds raised, £10,000 has been donated to the school for this, which has so far contributed to landscaping the area and the development of an outdoor classroom, a pond and a pergola. Ongoing developments to the garden are in progress, driven by our well-being ambassadors, STEM curriculum and Golden Thread Time, which will provide opportunities for the children to plant during the school day. Further, FOSH will continue to support the school through the ongoing work with the area, prompting further provision for well-being and pastoral care.

Other projects led by FOSH have included a donation of 8 kindles to be used across the school. This has enabled pupils to be further supported in their reading progress, particularly if they have previously struggled to engage with books. Also in the last year, we have been delighted to introduce regular bbqs for the children, which has only been made possible through the contributions towards the school bbq from FOSH. Mrs Vincent has used this on Friday lunch times, at the summer fete, and at the Year 6 end-of-year street party so it is already a new, much-loved tradition for the school.

This year’s autumn disco has seen the addition of glitter tattoos and face painting as a trial, to which FOSH hope to continue to offer in further years to come. Year 6 will use the funds raised as part of their end of year celebration.

Finally, we also have the annual Festive Fun Day – the Christmas Bazaar – coming up on Friday 1st December, with a chance to support through donations of various items for the stalls, donations towards festive hampers for the raffle and of course through volunteering. Thank you again for all the support provided.

If you are interested in getting involved with any of the events throughout the year please do email fosh@sherbornehouse.co.uk.
