Finally, the day of the ISA U11 Netball National Finals had arrived: the first or second time for the nine girls in the team and the seventh for myself but eagerly anticipated by us all with that strange mixture of nerves and excitement.
The team made a shaky start in our first pool match but then settled and improved their consistency of play, achieving a very creditable second place; just behind the overall winners of the whole competition, Alderley Edge. This meant they had qualified for the Plate competition and played our nemesis from the Regional competition. The team fought hard but The Study’s advantage of taller players proved a deciding factor. The final match against Crackley Hall was a nail-biting affair. Crackley were 4-1 ahead at half-time but the girls played out of their socks to draw 4-4 at full time and so to the golden goal decider…whoever scored first would win! Sadly, that was our opponents.
Well done to the team for achieving 8th overall in this National competition and we are all immensely proud of the girls’ determination and how they were such excellent ambassadors for the school. A big thank you to Mrs Provan for her assistance throughout the day and to our parents for your wonderful support…happy memories for me too!
