Sherborne House STEM Week

(Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths)

Friday 3rd March

Quantum Theatre - ‘The Big Drip’.  (Whole School) The theatre group will be performing two shows during the day. EYFS and KS1 will be shown that there are many different materials and that you can tell them apart by their properties. They see that there is a link between their properties and their uses. They discover that by mixing materials, you can create a new material and that water can be in the form of a solid, liquid or a gas. KS2 build on this and the density of particles in a solid, a liquid and a gas will be demonstrated. The children are introduced to the idea of a mixture and a compound with reference to the baking of a cake. They are also shown how a mixture can be separated.


Monday 6th March

Millers Ark Animals   (Pre-Reception, Reception and KS1.) The emphasis is on touching and feeding the animals to build confidence and awareness.

Forensic Science Workshops   (Year 1 – Year 6) A crime has been committed and it is the responsibility of each class to work together to piece together the evidence.


Tuesday 7th March

Maths Activities specially arranged by class teachers. (Whole School)

Natural History Museum    (Year 6)

KES Roadshow    (Year 5)


Wednesday 8th March

Sublime Science Workshops (Reception - Year 6). Sublime Science present spectacular science experiments with a mixture of interactive and demonstration activities. This includes the making of gooey slime! They will learn about scientific methods, pressure, air, forces and polymers.

Science within Music   (Year 2 – Year 6)   Children will learn about rhythm, vibration and density and how sound can travel through materials.


Thursday 9th March

Technology Activities specially arranged by class teachers. (Whole School)

Southampton University Pet Care Talk.    (Year 3 – Year 6)
Learn about how to care for your pet at home with tips and advice to look after your loved animals.

The Gregg School Science Afternoon   (5M)


Friday 10th March

Zoolab.    (Pre-Reception, Reception and KS1)

The children will have the opportunity to see, touch and hold a variety of creatures such as stick insects, millipedes, snails, tarantulas, scorpions and snakes.
