St. Swithun’s Maths Challenge

On Thursday, two teams of Year 5 pupils went to St Swithun's to take part in a Maths Challenge. After a good lunch, the children settled down to tackle three rounds of questions, working together in their teams of four to solve various related arithmetic problems. The final round, of quick-fire questions against the clock, was particularly exciting and tense as the teams competed to answer quickly and accurately. The final scores were apparently very close, with a tie for first place in the Y6 group, and close scores amongst the Year 5 teams. Sherborne House Team 1 did particularly well, against some tough competition from as far afield as London and Dorset, and came third in their age group, bringing home bronze medals. Everyone was worn out at the end of the afternoon (including the supervising staff) but, luckily, we were revived by chocolate biscuits before returning to school!

The teams were:

Team 2 - Tamara A, Harry B, Casper K and Rhea S
